Introduction
This master planning project for Cheongsong builds on the region’s identity as the most pristine natural landscape in Korea and its renown as having the best apples in the country.
The design challenge
How to create a creative retreat that brings people closer to nature but also to the culture and unique agricultural products of the local region?
The design solution
The traditional Korean village of walls and courtyards is reinterpreted with apple trees instead of walls, and a serpentine arrangement of individual guest houses nestles naturally within the landscape.
Each guest house has a living and working studio for visiting artists and writers on the ground floor, and a sleeping and meditation loft above.
